Florida Panthers Face Injury Challenges and Embark on a Road Trip
FORT LAUDERDALE — The Florida Panthers faced a challenging start to their journey as they hit the ice on Monday, with a mix of injury news and a six-game road trip ahead. The team encountered a setback when defenseman Seth Jones suffered an injury to his collarbone area during the Winter Classic on Friday, causing him to miss several weeks of play. Despite this setback, the Panthers received some positive updates regarding long-term injuries.
Cole Schwindt, who had been out with a broken arm, and Jonah Gadjovich, with an upper-body injury, both participated in Monday's practice, with Gadjovich wearing a non-contact jersey. Coach Paul Maurice hinted at a potential return for Schwindt during the initial part of the road trip, which includes a brief return to Fort Lauderdale for practice at the IcePlex before resuming play in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Additionally, Matthew Tkachuk might also rejoin the team during this initial four-game stretch. The Panthers' road trip continues with games in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Buffalo, providing an opportunity for the team to gain experience playing away from home. Out of their 41 games so far, only 15 have been on the road, meaning they will have just 15 home games remaining in the season.
The Panthers' next game is a crucial one, as they face the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Tuesday, with coverage on TNT/truTV and national streaming on HBO Max. This game marks the beginning of a challenging period for the Panthers, who will need to adapt to life on the road and navigate a series of crucial matchups against top teams.
