Pimax Dream Air: Shipping Update and Headstrap Insights (2026)

Pimax Dream Air VR Headset Ships with Temporary Headstrap

After a series of delays, Pimax has started shipping its new PC VR headset, Dream Air, in small batches. These initial shipments come with a fabric headstrap, a temporary solution until the official headstrap can be delivered. This approach allows Pimax to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before the final product is widely available.

The VR headset is designed to be lightweight and feature Sony's high-end micro-OLED panels, offering a 13.6MP (3,840 x 3,552) resolution per eye. Pimax has been transparent about the shipping process, explaining that the early batches are intended for external beta testing.

Despite the temporary headstrap, Pimax assures users that it is comfortable and suitable for extended use. The company plans to introduce a more advanced '3D headstrap' inspired by Apple Vision Pro, which will be provided to those who initially received the 2D strap. However, the exact timing of this upgrade remains uncertain.

Additionally, Pimax is developing a 'hard backstrap' with off-ear audio, which will be available after the initial rollout of Dream Air. The cheaper variant, Dream Air SE, featuring 6.5MP displays, is expected to ship in small batches starting February 2026.

Pimax's approach to product development has been unique, often involving multiple design changes and delays. This strategy allows them to publicly iterate and refine their products, ensuring they meet high standards. Despite initial skepticism, Pimax has consistently delivered competitive hardware, establishing itself as a notable player in the VR industry.
