A bold statement has been made by Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi royal advisor and boxing chief, who is calling for a major shake-up at Manchester United. Alalshikh, a self-proclaimed fan of the club, has taken aim at the Glazer family, the majority owners, suggesting they should follow head coach Ruben Amorim out the door at Old Trafford.
The recent sacking of Amorim, who had a turbulent 14-month reign as manager, appears to have been the catalyst for Alalshikh's comments. His departure was reportedly due to a fallout with the club's leadership, after a public rant where he demanded better performance from other departments and staff.
Alalshikh, who is also chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and has organized high-profile boxing events in Riyadh, took to social media to express his views. He posted, "Praise be to God... finally... may the Glazer [family] follow soon," alongside an image of Amorim with the word 'sacked' emblazoned on it.
But here's where it gets controversial... the Glazer family has been a target of fan criticism for many years, primarily due to the massive debt the club has accumulated since their takeover two decades ago. Despite this, the Glazers remain majority shareholders, although footballing operations are now controlled by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who acquired the chemicals group Ineos.
Alalshikh has a history of commenting on United's ownership, and his recent posts have sparked debate once again. In October, he claimed that the club was close to securing new investment, but there was no evidence to support this. He later clarified that he was not the investor and was merely expressing his wishes as a fan.
So, the question remains: Should the Glazer family be held accountable for the club's performance and financial situation? And is new investment the answer to Manchester United's problems? These are the questions that fans and commentators are now debating. What do you think? Join the discussion and share your thoughts in the comments!
