The upcoming documentary, Act of Service, shines a light on a unique rehabilitation program designed to help incarcerated veterans heal through equine therapy and horse training. Directed by Ilie Mitaru and produced by Alex Lieberman, the film is an extension of Mitaru's award-winning BBC reporting on the program. The initiative, part of the Veterans Accessing Lifelong Opportunities for Rehabilitation (VALOR) program in Collin County, Texas, is a collaboration between Judge John Roach Jr., a Marine Corps veteran and presiding judge of the North Texas Veterans Court, and Sheriff Jim Skinner, a U.S. Air Force veteran and seasoned horseman. With support from Pat Puckett, a horse trainer and Vietnam veteran, the program offers a powerful approach to healing for those grappling with the invisible wounds of military service, incarceration, addiction, and relationship issues.
